NOTES: Lowe is by far the longest tenured coach in the Pioneer, beginning his 20th season. Green Wave is 31-10 with 4 straight playoff appearances over the past 4 seasons. Will take a place in history as the last team to defeat Covington High School when they beat the Cougars in last year's Region 1C Quarterfinals. Town of Narrows gets its name as it sits where the New River narrows and if you are of a certain age, Narrows provides one of the earliest signs of Christmas when the town puts its Christmas lights on display across the bridge.

NOTES: Parry McCluer starts over again as Brockenbrough becomes the 3rd coach in 3 years. He's been the school's wrestling coach for 15 years. Interim Coach Troy Clark led the team to a 4-6 record in his only season. Hard to believe that this once dominant small school program struggles just to make it into the post-season.

NOTES: Phillips is one of Bath County's favorite sons having led the Chargers to the 2001 Group A, Division 1 championship as a sophomore, to the State Semi-Finals in 2002 and the championship game in 2003 as a Senior. Opened 2022 at 2-1 and then went 2-6 the remainder of the way losing in the Region 1C Quarterfinals to Galax 49-0. With Phillips in charge do not count Bath County out of contending for the District title and more in the coming seasons.

NOTES: Showed some progress in 2021 going 5-5 only to lose the momentum last year. Only two wins were over Auburn before they shut the season down and Craig County. Hard to believe that just 14 years ago, the Mustangs played Riverheads in the Group-A Division 1 championship game.

NOTES: It is schools like this that make High School football the best level. Craig County has a small student population, small roster and yet continues to play on. Only on-field win last year was over Bland County. Fun fact: Craig County can actually claim a Division 1 player in its history. Former West Virginia Quarterback Chad Johnston played his sophomore year in 1989 at Craig County for his father Gordon Johnston. Chad returned to his native Peterstown, WV the following year and was the Starting Quarterback on Peterstown's 1991 Class-A state championship team. He's now a Doctor in Blacksburg.
